In 2019, I started a podcast with graduate students at the University of Oxford on how we do research. The podcast is called Behavioural Science Uncovered and you can learn more about it here.
In each episode, one student interviews a researcher about the makings of one of the projects s/he’s worked on. The idea of this podcast is to de-emphasize research outputs and instead focus on the research process. Some of the questions we ask:
- How did you start working on this research idea?
- How did your idea evolve over time?
- What hurdles did you face along the way?
- How long did it take you to bring your idea to life?
- With the benefit of hindsight, what would you have done differently?
- What does a typical work day look like for you?
Special thanks to everyone who contributed so far! I learned so much from you all.
For potential contributors: If you have a project that you’d be interested in talking about for this podcast, please feel free to contact me directly. We are interested in theory, experiments and applied work in any area broadly related to behavioural science. The idea is really to talk about research methods and approaches to a problem rather than research outputs.
For listeners: If you are interested in learning about specific research areas, themes or projects, suggestions are always very welcome. Here are themes I have been thinking about covering:
- Killing projects: when and why
- Pre-Analysis Plans: pros and cons
- What is ethical research?
- Predicting research results
